For the first six months of 2018, the District continued to experience rising trash, with a total of 56,944 bags collected, 11% higher than first half 2017, and each month of 2018 higher than the same month last year. Bags collected topped 10,000 this May.
Pressure wash requests continued to soar this year with 1,794 washings compared to 547 during first half 2017, up 228%. The BID provides pressure washing to address public health hazards from bodily fluids and waste on sidewalks and in business doorways.
Conversely, less graffiti was removed for the first half of 2018 with 476 overall actions versus 627 through June 2017.
