METRO, LADOT, and Streets LA have all partnered to make big improvements along 5th and 6th Streets from Flower Street to Central Avenue. The goal of this project is to increase safety & mobility for all street users.
These improvements include:
- Repaving streets & restriping lanes
- Adding protected bike lanes on 5th St & 6th St, between Spring St & Central Ave
- Adding bus-only lanes (weekdays from 7am to 7pm)
Phase 1 of the project will take place in June & July 2020 (yep - right now!) and will include repaving and restriping 5th Street and 6th Street, activating bus-only lane on westbound 5th Street from Central Avenue to, installing a mid-block pedestrian crossing signal (roughly 400 feet east of Flower Street), activating bus-only lane on eastbound 6th Street from Hope Street to Central Avenue.
Phase 2 is projected to occur in April of 2021 and will include extending the bus-only lane on westbound 5th Street from mid-block to Flower Street, and installing a signal queue jumper for buses on 5th Street at Flower Street.
