The Industrial District BID has renewed its contract for trash and maintenance services with Chrysalis, a non-profit organization whose mission is to prepare formerly homeless individuals for reentry into the workforce, and places them in transitional and permanent jobs. In addition to their expertise working for multiple business improvement districts, Chrysalis places workers in a variety of jobs including freeway maintenance, janitorial and storage facilities.

The Industrial BID has more than two dozen Chrysalis workers in the field clearing piles of debris off the street, keeping gutters clear, painting over graffiti, sweeping and power washing sidewalks. These are men and women who have graduated from Chrysalis’ rigorous job-readiness program and received individualized supportive services.

Each weekday beginning at 5am and weekends at 7:30am, our “Clean Team” hits the streets with a mission-focused mindset. In 2022, our Clean Team removed 2,721 tons of trash off our District sidewalks and gutters, responded to 8,201 on-demand pressure wash requests, and safely disposed of 8786 used needles. Our BID is proud of our affiliation with Chrysalis and we look forward to our continued partnership.
