Industrial BID Public Safety Captain Ray Lopez was presented with a commendation from the City of Los Angeles for bravery while rescuing two individuals from a building fire on San Pedro St. Capt. Lopez observed the fire and immediately contacted 911 but realizing there could be persons inside the building unaware of the fast-spreading flames, Lopez went into the structure and indeed found two persons who needed assistance. With his flashlight in hand, Capt. Lopez discovered the two individuals and led them through a dark and smoke-filled building to safety and returned inside to ensure no one else was still there. Firefighters arrived shortly thereafter and extinguished the fire, but the actions of Capt. Lopez were pivotal to ensuring that no one was injured. The building owner credited Capt. Lopez for saving his life and that of his employee.
