Downtown flower shops were allowed to open in time for Mother’s Day. In the Industrial BID, these shops had been preparing and receiving inventory for two weeks before the holiday. Many shops were without their usual trash service because of the COVID shutdown, resulting in larger than usual illegal dumping of green waste and cardboard in the southwest corner of the BID.
The BID ramped up to help, but the trash amount overwhelmed our resources. We contacted the City and they responded by delivering a 40-yard dumpster and by sending Sanitation crews twice to collect and dispose of the mountains of trash. We appreciate our partnership with L.A. Sanitation.
