LA Design Festival coming to the Industrial District June 20-23
This month, the spotlight shines bright on the design community of Los Angeles as creative minds come together for the annual LA Design Festival—marking the ninth year of what’s become LA’s official design festival. Starting June 19th design enthusiasts and curious minds alike can enjoy a number of pop-up exhibitions, galleries, installations, tours, interactive experiences, parties and film screenings throughout the city. And we’re excited to share that we got some insight from co-founder of the festival Haily Zuki on what not to miss!
For the first time ever, the LA Design Festival will host an ADU Home Tour event on Saturday, June 22nd at the Industrial District’s very own ROW DTLA. With the city’s increasing shortage of affordable housing units, the Accessory Dwelling Unit (ADU) housing model hopes to be the solution by creating these backyard residences. Industry experts, community members, and homeowners will have the opportunity to tour a concept home and learn about the opportunities around ADUs. More exciting news for Industrial District (ID) residents, the neighborhood will also be the official launch site of this year’s festival as it hosts the Design Block Party on Friday, June 21st with an all-out street party at ROW DTLA. The ticketed event will feature shows, exhibitions and complimentary beverages, as well as a sold-out keynote address and reception with Brooks & Scarpa—a collective of architects, designers and creative thinkers awarded with the 2014 Smithsonian Cooper-Hewitt National Design Award.

In celebration of local talent, the LA Design Festival will also host the 2019 ICON, EDGE and RISE Awards which will honor extremely accomplished talent including ID residents Meyghan Hill of (wh)ORE HAuS Studios and Uri Davillier of Neptune Glassworks. For the first time, the EDGE recipients are all part of a group show that will bring the talented designers together for a special collaborative experience. Folks are invited to join the award recipients for a rooftop after-party and celebration at the Ace Hotel on Thursday, June 20th starting at 10:00 p.m.

Enjoy these and many other opportunities to celebrate the design community of Los Angeles between June 20th through the 23rd. For the complete list of events and activities, visit the LA Design Festival calendar page at ladesignfestival.org/schedule.
