For Industrial District property owners who cannot obtain insurance or who have had their insurance cancelled, there is hope. The BID receives ongoing reports from owners unable to insure their properties, and as part of our commitment as your advocate we invited CA State Insurance Commissioner Ricardo Lara to meet directly with a representative group of owners from the Industrial District and surrounding area to hear first-hand how impossible it has become to obtain coverage in our area. This meeting was made possible by Mayor Karen Bass, who reached out to Commissioner Lara to explain the severity of the problem. The Mayor graciously attended the meeting herself and vowed to remain in touch with the BID as we work with the Department of Insurance to identify a solution.

Here is what you need to do if you have experienced a problem obtaining or maintaining coverage for your property in the Industrial District:

  1. Go to the CA State Department of Insurance website:
  2. Click on “File a Complaint,” followed by “File a Consumer Complaint Online”
  3. After you’ve completed this request for assistance, you will receive a Case Number.
  4. Send an email with your case number to the BID at

By doing this, the BID will help the Department of Insurance track the requests that come directly from our area for specific causes and geographic boundaries. We will keep you informed of next steps.
